Lindsey’s Story

Lindsey Dougherty has made public service her life’s work. She knows from experience that effective government and non-profit programs can make a huge difference in people’s lives. Lindsey has worked with community organizations her entire career because she knows the value and strength they bring to the fabric of our community.

Lindsey is originally from Knoxville, TN. After completing her BA at the University of Tennessee, she and her husband moved to the Raleigh area in North Carolina to complete their respective graduate programs. Lindsey has a Master’s in Public Administration from North Carolina State University. Like many people in our community, she moved to Virginia almost a decade ago, to pursue new job opportunities and set down roots in our community. She has been an active volunteer with groups that advocate for expanding healthcare access for children across Virginia and groups that support single moms and their families on their paths to financial freedom and independence.

Lindsey can represent the needs of her neighbors in House District 75 because she has faced the same problems, so many of us have had, navigating a complex healthcare system with two children with complicated autoimmune disorders, medical costs that threaten bankruptcy, sometimes working multiple jobs to make ends meet, while also attending school full-time, and raising a family. She suffered a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy, and knows she wouldn’t be here today without prompt, compassionate, life-saving care provided by her medical team. She doesn’t want a representative that will interject themselves in private and personal medical decisions that are basic healthcare rights that should be provided to everyone. In Lindsey, you will have someone champion your goals and turn them into action at the state level, improving the lives of all the constituents in our district.

Lindsey believes that communities do better when everyone is safe, healthy, and engaged with their neighbors. She is excited to get to work, to meet with you and your families, building a community everyone is engaged in. Lindsey’s goals for this campaign are to increase access to all types of jobs, enhance the health and well-being of our citizens, create access and affordability of educational programs in the district, all while getting everyone involved so that everyone in the district has a voice and is heard.
